How I created my “safe space”

Having my own private practice has been a dream of mine for many years. In fact, during particularly challenging times throughout my graduate program, I used a mindfulness/imagery exercise where you envision your “safe space” in details - I would design my office in my mind over and over and that helped me so much during those hard grad school years! Over time those designs have evolved, but the idea of a “safe space” has remained imperative.

As I was putting this space together, it was important to me that my office provided a soothing, pleasing atmosphere and that it also reflected my personality, sense of style, and Brazilian culture. I carefully selected the artwork, wall color, and furniture. Some items have been saved for years, like the vintage set of Rorschach cards that are now framed on the wall - a nod to my East Coast Training.

I look forward to returning to in person sessions in the near future so you can join me for a cup of tea while we work to improve your quality of life! Who says therapy has to be uncomfortable all around?
