Individual Therapy
There are so many reasons to go to therapy.
Therapy is not merely for times when you are in crisis. Therapy can be a unique journey about discovering, unlearning, and evolving and can literally be anything you want it to be. I am obviously biased, but I do believe everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) can benefit from individual therapy. And I recognize that it is also a privilege that many don’t have access to, so at times we may feel guilty or think that our problems are “not bad enough” to warrant seeking help. Read below for some reasons to do therapy and how it can benefit you in both big and small ways:
Individual therapy can be helpful if you:
Feel overwhelmed
Feel chronically angry, depressed, anxious, or resentful
Are in a relationship that you want to improve
Want to process your trauma and learn to have a new relationship with it
Feel lost and wonder what is next
Struggle with decision making or with setting boundaries
Are in need of support
Were raised in a dysfunctional family
Just need to talk
Reasons people go to therapy:
To talk without the fear of being judged or criticized
To hear themselves talk without having to listen to another person talking about themselves
To learn more about themselves
To cry or experience emotion without being asked to stop or cheer up
To process life events
To evolve/grow
To have someone sit with during difficult times without worrying about being a burden
To share things that other people can't understand
To talk about people in their lives who need therapy, but won't go
