Treatment Modalities & Approach

My goal is to create a welcoming, nurturing, non-judgmental space where you feel safe to share your needs and explore the factors and patterns that may be impacting your quality of life.

I believe in the power of our shared human experience and in bringing my genuine self to the therapeutic process. My approach is direct and transparent. I frequently use humor and some irreverence to lighten the often-arduous work of therapy and personal growth.

As an immigrant, I am particularly sensitive to the many ways different people show vulnerability, and strive to take multicultural, interpersonal, and contextual factors into account in order to get to know the multiple identities forming our whole selves.

Because my training is grounded in both psychodynamic and evidenced based therapies, I do not believe in a “one size-fits-all” therapeutic approach - where one therapeutic modality is supposed to help with every issue. In fact, research shows that the therapeutic relationship is the strongest predictor of therapeutic success.

With that in mind, I use a relational approach that emphasizes connection: being seen, heard, and valued for who you are and where you are in your journey.

I then integrate techniques and skills from the following approaches and evidenced based therapies to help clients meet the challenges they are facing at any given time:

Humanistic/Existential

Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples (EFT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

Mindfulness-based techniques

Regardless of the focus of therapy, I approach my work with several overarching values:

All humans have the capacity to grow and change.

All humans have the capacity and are worthy of healthy relationships with themselves and others.

All humans have the right to develop a fulfilling life.

All humans are worthy of love and self-compassion.

Humans develop within the context of relationships and healing can take place within our relationships, including the therapeutic relationship.

In addition to symptom reduction, therapy should foster empowerment and build upon strengths.
